Berlin day one

Took the train from Frankfurt to Berlin. Takes about 4 hours.
Staying in former East Berlin, a couple km east of where the wall use to be. East Berlin is now the hip place to be.
Weather is better than Frankfurt, about 5 degrees Celsius, less wind. Dry during the day, started to drizzle tonight.
Took the U-Bahn (subway) to the no man's land between East and West Berlin, where now stands a big modern mall and a 3-D imax theater. There is a small memorial to the wall where a few pieces of it still stand, right outside a Starbucks.
Check on seeing Watchmen at the English language theater, but its not playing until 8:30 and its only 5.
Berliners dress well. Not too euro-trashy, really reminds me of how Angelenos (not the mexican kind but the wealthy white kind) would dress if it were cold. The women are, for the most part, strikingly beautiful. Many of the younger women have their hair died black.
Had my first (of hopefully many) fine dining meals this evening. At at a German fine dining place. Lutter and Wagner, east Berlin mitte. Has a huge book of a wine list. Got a 1982 Chataeu Beychevelle for 260 Euros. Dinner was four courses, a salad, a soup, an Atlantic pike, and a rhubard desert. While German food is mostly crap, all was very tasty here. The wine was awesome. Still lots of structure for 27 years in the bottle, big nose and long interesting finish. Impecible service, very accomodating to my complete lack of the German language.

Wanted to go out to a bar/club tonight, but my circadean rhythm just wont allow it, it feels like 2 am or so and its only 9.
