Mysore: Chamundi Hills

Another hill, another temple. This time a temple of Kali, just like that nightmare temple in Calcutta. We drove all the way up this hill, and there really wasn't much else besides this temple, so we sucked it up and removed our shoes and walked barefoot through the temple to give Kali a gift of some flowers. The line to give offerings to the God was organized and calm, the temple was pretty clean, the stone you walked barefoot on was pretty clean, there was an old guy there that showed us what to do, we got a spot of paint on our forehead, and that was that. This was a much different experience than the temple in Calcutta, if you remember, where there was no line, but instead lots of yelling and pushing and slapping, and you walked through a good 1/2 inch of black muck, and the offering to Kali was a sacrificed goat, and there were crazed people chanting everywhere, and people spitting on your feet, and finally a spot of paint on your head. Much different indeed. The Calcutta one was much more like the Temple of Doom (which was a temple to Kali, if you remember, Mola Ram was a Kali priest).
There was also a very friendly cow and a couple street dogs fiercely fighting. And I guess the pic of the Super Mario Bros statue was actually intended to be a statue of the demon that Kali slayed that this temple honors, but it was just an unfortunate coincidence that the creators of said statue ended up making a giant middle eastern Luigi. There was no statue of a koopa trooper or bowser, fyi.
