Kolkata (Calcutta) - Walking to the Ganges River

Walked through a section of city full of potters molding mud clay into statues of Kali. They are big into the goddess of destruction up here. The Ganges river is an image many associate with "India", people bathing in a filthy muddy river. Its also where they burn their dead, "wash" their clothes, throw their garbage, take their shits, and a host of many other activities I'm sure. It reminds me of a pretty great movie a few years ago called "Water" about a cross caste romance between a Brahman and a chick of a backwards caste. Takes place on the Ganges. Its a part of a trilogy, "fire", "earth", "water", I think, but Water is the one to see.
